Mr. Jim Burkhart is currently the President and CEO of Shands Jacksonville, the largest of nine hospitals in the Shands HealthCare System. Mr. Burkhart came to Shands Jacksonville in August 2001 as a consultant and subsequently worked with Cambio Health Solutions, LLC, the national healthcare-consulting firm retained by Shands Jacksonville to assess its operations and help with restructuring efforts. In August 2002, he became the interim chief operations officer and in May 2003 he was appointed president and administrator of Shands Jacksonville.

Mr. Burkhart is responsible for the overall operations of Shands Jacksonville. He enjoys collaborating with the board of directors, University of Florida leaders and medical staff, as well as fostering mutually beneficial relationships with city and community leaders and organizations. Before working at Shands Jacksonville, he held leadership roles at several medical centers, including being the president and administrator of Ft. Sanders Regional and Parkwest Medical Centers. He was also a Partner and President of Endeavor Health, a healthcare-consulting group.

Shands Jacksonville serves northeast Florida, including Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns Counties, as well as several counties in southern Georgia. The hospital is made up of more than 3,300 employees, all supporting the hospital's mission to heal, comfort and educate in an environment where exemplary medical care is complemented by outstanding service. Backed by a team of more than 330 faculty physicians, Shands Jacksonville offers nearly 70 specialty services.

Mr. Burkhart has a bachelor's degree in psychology and biology from the University of Tennessee and a master's degree in hospital and healthcare administration from the University of Alabama Birmingham. He is married and has two daughters and one son.
