G. Richard Hastings was named Saint Luke's Health System's Chief Executive Officer in 1996, after serving as chief operating officer and chief executive officer of Saint Luke's Hospital and in executive officer roles with the Saint Luke's Health System. Hastings began at Saint Luke's Hospital as an administrative resident in 1977. He served in the United States Air Force in numerous operational positions and received a Bronze Star for service in Southeast Asia. Under his leadership, Saint Luke's Hospital won the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Hastings is a preceptor for the University of Minnesota's Health Care Administration Program. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Hastings holds a master's degree in business administration from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., and a master's degree in hospital and health care administration from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Hastings serves on the boards of The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce (past chair), Midwest Research Institute Board of Trustees, Harry J. Lloyd Charitable Trust, Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA), Missouri Hospital Association (past chair), Mid-America Coalition on Healthcare, Healthcare Services Group (past chair), Health Alliance of Mid America (past chair), Excellence in Missouri Foundation, and the Hospital Data Institute (past chair). He was the 2001 recipient of the ACHE Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent's Award, 2001 recipient of the Human Relations Award from the Jewish Community Relations Bureau/American Jewish Committee, and 2004 recipient of Health Information Management Systems Society's 2004 CEO IT Achievement Award.

Mr. Hastings and his wife, Judy, have a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Michelle Hastings, and a daughter, Katie. Rich and Judy's hobby is traveling throughout Israel and biblical studies, and they have led numerous tour groups to Israel. In his leisure time, Rich enjoys golf and is an adult Sunday school teacher.

Saint Luke's Health System, which consists of nine area hospitals and 14 primary care practices, and provides a range of primary, acute, tertiary, and chronic care services. The health system is an organization in which the physicians and hospitals, functioning as an integrated unit, assume responsibility for the delivery of comprehensive, cost-effective, quality health care for people in the metropolitan Kansas City area and the surrounding region.
