George Mikitarian is president and chief executive officer of Parrish Medical Center, located in Titusville, Florida, a position he has held since 2001. Prior to that Mr. Mikitarian served as the medical center’s chief operating officer beginning in 1996.
Parrish Medical Center is one of Brevard’s largest employers with more than 1,100 employees serving a community of 100,000. Parrish Medical Center is a 210-bed, acute care, public, not-for-profit facility and includes a health and fitness center, outpatient healthcare centers, a children’s center, a home health agency, a wound healing center, a senior consultation and solutions center, a community clinic, and an occupational medicine clinic.
Under his leadership Parrish Medical Center has been featured in many books and journals and has become a nationally recognized award-winner for clinical excellence and providing healing patient experiences. Among PMC’s most recent accomplishments are:
- Earning Modern Healthcare magazine’s Spirit of Excellence award for service.
- Being named America’s #1 Healing Hospital by the Baptist Healing Trust, Nashville, TN for two consecutive years.
- Becoming Brevard’s only hospital to earn four Joint Commission Gold Seals of Approval for stroke, diabetes, congestive heart failure, and wound care.
- The first hospital in the nation to receive the Discovery Award for providing exceptional patient experiences from the Starizon Group and the Centers for Health Design.
Mr. Mikitarian is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He earned a doctorate in health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, his master’s degree in healthcare administration from the Indiana University School of Medicine and his undergraduate degree from Bridgewater State College, in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Mr. Mikitarian is active in a number of civic and professional organizations and currently serves on the Executive Committee and Board of VHA Southeast, as well as on the executive committees of the Brevard Workforce Development Board and the Economic Development Commission of the Space Coast. He also serves on the Boards of the Brevard Community College Foundation and the Brevard County Health Facilities Authority and is a past member of the board of the Florida Hospital Association.
Prior to PMC, Mr. Mikitarian’s experience includes serving as Senior Vice President, Operations at Battle Creek Health Systems, Battle Creek, Michigan; Vice President, Administration, King’s Daughter’s Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky; and Assistant Vice President, Operations, West Virginia University Hospitals, Morgantown, West Virginia.
